Underneath it all, there seems to be this rationale that an investor needs to be either or. However, we would argue that you can have and be both. You can position your portfolio as a dividend growth investor with the objective of investing in companies that offer the potential to increase their dividend every year. Simultaneously, and by definition, you can and should also expect capital appreciation that is consistent with your expected dividend growth rate.
